CHECK YOUR RUBBER TRACK TENSION

"HOW MUCH SAG YOUR TRACK SHOULD HAVE"

PLEASE CONSULT YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL FOR SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR MAKE & MODEL

These instructions include removal and replacement of the rubber track prior to checking track tension and evaluating how much sag is present:

The first step of track removal is to raise the machine off the ground. Once off the ground make sure
you support the machine with blocks or jack stands.

Find the tensioner cover plate and remove it with the necessary tools. Next locate the grease zirk and
unthread it with a ratchet wrench. Find the check ball which is 2 inches inside the the tube where the
grease zirk was removed. Press the ball to release the grease from the track tensioner. This will loosen
the track. While pressing down on the check ball push down on the center of the track this will force
more grease out. Sometimes it is necessary to have a second person to push down on the track to fully
depress the tensioner. The tension wheel is fully retracted when it touches the frame at this point you
can remove the track.

To replace the track start by putting the track on the drive sprocket. Make sure the links straddle the
sprocket. Once you do that have a second person hold the middle of the track up to the frame and then
put the track over the tensioner. Make sure the links straddle the tension wheel as well. Once on, install
the grease zirk. After the grease zirk is installed pump tensioner with grease, this will tighten the track
by moving the tension wheel away from the frame.
You want to have about 2 ½ – 3 inches of sag from
the bottom of the frame
. Start engine and rotate the track. After a few revolutions stop the track and
turn off the engine. Re-measure the sag making sure you have 2 ½ – 3 inches of sag. Once you have the
proper sag replace the tensioner cover plate lower the machine and repeat the same process for the
other side.
